The School of Pharmacy, Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan University, organized a One-Day seminar on "NMR and Mass Spectroscopy" on 11 June 2026 to enhance the knowledge and analytical skills of undergraduate and postgraduate pharmacy students in the field of instrumental analysis.
The programme was convened by Dr. S. Akilandeswari, Dean, School of Pharmacy, and coordinated by the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry. The event was successfully organized by Dr. K. Nithya, Professor, Dr. B. Vasuki, Associate Professor, and Mr. S. Sardar Khan, Assistant Professor, who served as the programme coordinators.
The programme featured two eminent academicians as guest speakers: Dr. N. Suryaprakash, Professor and Chairman, NMR Research Centre, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru.
Dr. S. V. K. Kumar, Professor and Chairman, Department of Nuclear and Atomic Physics, Bengaluru.
Dr. N. Suryaprakash delivered an insightful lecture on the principles and advanced applications of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectroscopy, highlighting its significance in molecular structure elucidation, pharmaceutical research, and drug discovery. He explained the latest developments in NMR techniques and their role in modern analytical chemistry.
Dr. S. V. K. Kumar presented an informative session on Mass Spectroscopy, emphasizing its principles, instrumentation, fragmentation patterns, and applications in qualitative and quantitative analysis of pharmaceutical compounds. The lecture provided students with a comprehensive understanding of advanced analytical techniques used in research laboratories and the pharmaceutical industry.
The interactive sessions enabled students to engage with the experts, clarify their queries, and gain valuable insights into the practical applications of NMR and Mass Spectroscopy in academia, research, and industry. The programme significantly enriched the participants' knowledge and inspired them to pursue advanced research in pharmaceutical sciences.
