The School of Pharmacy, Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan University, proudly celebrated World Pharmacist Day on 25th September 2025 with great enthusiasm and active participation from faculty, students, and dignitaries. The theme of this year’s celebration was “Think Health, Think Pharmacist”, emphasizing the pivotal role of pharmacists in promoting healthcare and ensuring patient well-being.
The program commenced at 10.00 AM in the august presence of distinguished dignitaries. The Chief Patron of the event was Shri. A. Srinivasan, Chancellor, Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan University, and the Patron was Smt. Ananthalakshmi Kathiravan, Pro-Chancellor, DSU. The event was graced and guided by the Program Advisors, Dr. C. K. Ranjan, Vice-Chancellor, DSU, and Dr. Dhanasekaran Devaraj, Registrar, DSU, whose continuous support and encouragement were instrumental in organizing this program successfully.
The gathering was graced by a warm felicitation address delivered by Dr. S. Akilandeswari, Dean, School of Pharmacy, DSU. In her address, she extended a cordial welcome to the dignitaries, faculty members, and students and expressed her appreciation for the dedicated efforts of the organizing team. She highlighted the significance of celebrating World Pharmacist Day, emphasizing the pharmacist’s evolving role in healthcare delivery, patient safety, and community well-being.
The formal session of the World Pharmacist Day celebration commenced with a warm and graceful introduction of the Chief Guest by Professor Dr. B.Rajinikanth. The highlight of the celebration was the special address delivered by the Resource Person, Prof. Dr. S. Kavimani, Registrar, Academic, Professor, and Head, Mother Teresa Postgraduate and Research Institute of Health Sciences, Puducherry. In his enlightening talk, Dr. S. Kavimani shed light on the indispensable contributions of pharmacists to the healthcare system, their expanding professional roles, and the need for continuous knowledge upgradation to meet global healthcare challenges. He also stressed the importance of adopting best practices to minimize dispensing errors, thereby reinforcing the need for accuracy, responsibility, and ethical practice in pharmacy services. His words served as an inspiration for budding pharmacists to commit themselves to patient-centered care and professional excellence.
On the occasion of World Pharmacist Day, the School of Pharmacy organized a lively Student Expo. The Expo provided a practical platform for B.Pharm and D.Pharm students to translate classroom learning into real-world demonstrations, communicate professional responsibilities to the public, and highlight innovations in pharmacy practice and patient care.
The celebration concluded with an interactive session, where 450 Pharmacy students actively participated, reflecting on the significance of the day and reaffirming their commitment to the pharmacy profession. The event not only highlighted the crucial role of pharmacists in safeguarding health but also served as a platform for academic enrichment and professional inspiration.
The program was convened under the leadership of Dr. S. Akilandeswari, Dean, School of Pharmacy, DSU, who provided valuable guidance in planning and execution. The organizing committee members included Dr. R. Sabitha, Associate Professor, DSC, and Mr. M. Arunprasath, Assistant Professor, DSU, whose coordinated efforts ensured the smooth conduct of the event. The programme concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. R. Sabitha.
