FIT INDIA WEEK - 2023 Celebrations

Fitness is an integral part of our daily life. Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan University always strives to promote fitness and well-being among students, staff, and faculties.
Based on the UGC directives, Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan University has celebrated "Fit India Week - 2023" from 11 th December to 15 th December 2023. Department of Physical Education, under the Aegis of Students’ Affairs has organized the five-day fitness activity programme in the university campus in Trichy.
On Day one, an inaugural session was held. Mr. P. Chandramohan, Assistant Physical Director welcomed the gathering. The Vice-Chancellor, Dr. C. K. Ranjan offered felicitations and emphasized on the importance of physical activities to maintain physical and mental health. Dr. Pathma J, Associate Dean, Students’ Affairs recited the Fitness pledge aiding the students to take fitness pledge. Dr. M. Ravichandran Registrar (i/c), Dr. S. Selvakumar, (Dean, Academics), Dr. K. Rekha Associate Dean, School of Allied Health Sciences, Assistant directors, physical education, faculty members and student from various schools were present. Mr. S. Manikandan, Asst. Physical Director delivered the vote of thanks. Fitness assessment test was taken through fit India mobile application for around 800 students which was facilitated by Physical Education Directors and Fit India Awareness Week Coordinators.
Day two kick started with a mini-marathonin at early hours of the dawn. Vice-Chancellor Dr. C. K. Ranjan flagged off the marathon. Dr. A.Thulasi, Dean (SMCH), Dr. Sanjay Singh, Dean (SET), Prof. A. Pechiammal Dean, (SOP), Dr. J. Pathma, Associate Dean, Students’ Affairs, Dr. Ragubalan, Dean (i/c), School of Law, Dr.V.Raju, Associate Dean (SET), Assistant Physical Directors and faculty members of the university were present. Nearly 800 students participated in the marathon. First five places in men and women was bagged by Mr. N. Vishal, SET, Mr. R. Sabarish, Mr. Gowsik, Mr. R. Raghul I year SET, and Mr. Saidha Shaik, II year SET, and Ms. A. Oviee II year PPT, Ms. M. Esthar I year SAHS, Ms. M. Dhanusha I year SAHS,, Ms. B. Santhiya I st year SON, Ms. M. S. Pooja III rd year respectively.
On Day three, fun games like the sack race, three-legged race, dodge ball, dog and the bone and tunnel ball roll relay were conducted for the students. The competitions were inaugurated by Prof. A. Pechiammal Dean, the School of Paramedical Sciences, and Dr. A. Thulasi, Dean, the School of Medicine. Nearly, 750 students participated with energy and enthusiasm.
On Day four, nearly 750 students participated in aerobic exercises guided by resource person Dr. D. Boopathy Assistant Professor, National College, Trichy. Dr. J. Pathma, Associate Dean, Students’ Affairs welcomed the gathering. Dr. A. Thulasi, Dean (SMCH), presided the event and offered felicitations. Dr. K. Rekha, Dean School of Allied Health Sciences, and Dr. K. Tharmar, Director of Physical Education were amongst the dignitaries.
On the Fifth Day, friendly Volleyball and Chess tournaments were conducted. A total of 17 teams (11) Men and (6) Women participated in Volleyball. Around 350 students participated in chess competition. The competition were presided and inaugurated by Dr. Sathya Vishnu Karthick, Dean School of Architecture along with Dr. J. Pathma, Associate Dean, Students’ Affairs. In the valedictory session of the "Fit India Week Celebration", Dr. Sathya Vishnu Karthick, Dean (Architecture) congratulated the winners and Dr. K. Tharmar, Director of Physical Education delivered the vote of thanks.
