Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan University, Students affairs cell organized various activities to create awareness among the university students about the consequences of indulging in ragging and similar activities. The aim of the anti-ragging awareness week celebration was to create a harmonious, welcoming academic environment within the university campus for the freshmen. Various students' clubs under the aegis of Students affairs cell organized an array of events to create a sense of awareness among the students and discourage ragging within the university community. The events were scheduled as follows:
A new students club named "Know your rights and responsibilities club" was inaugurated on anti-ragging awareness day. The club activity was kickstarted with a workshop on ragging issues in which Dr. B. Kumaresan, Assistant Professor, TamilNadu National Law University, Trichy, and Dr. V. Shyam Sundar, Assistant Professor of Law, Dr. Ambedkar Government Law college, Pudupakkam were the resource persons. Mr. Ragubalan, Assistant Professor of Law and staff coordinator of the club coordinated the event. Dr. M. Ravichandran, Dean School of Agricultural Sciences honoured the guest speakers. They educated the students about what is ragging, the legal consequences involved, Anti-ragging act, helpline number and email ids to support the freshmen etc. Brief history of the untoward incidents that led to the genesis of the law was also discussed. The primary law against ragging in India is the "Prohibition of Ragging in Educational Institutions Act, 2006." The sensitized students about how law defines ragging. "Ragging defined as any conduct that has the effect of teasing, treating, or handling with rudeness any other student, indulging in undisciplined activities which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in a fresher or a junior student." They described that the law covers all educational institutions, including colleges, universities, and other higher education institutions and the act mandates that educational institutions take stringent measures to prevent ragging, including the establishment of anti-ragging committees and squads, organizing orientation programs, and spreading awareness about the consequences of ragging etc. The described the nature of punishment as per the act which includes such severe penalties for those found guilty of ragging ranging from imprisonment and fines etc. The law also requires institutions to take immediate action if any incident of ragging is reported, including suspending the accused students and conducting thorough investigations etc. Nearly 250 students from various Schools of DSU participated in the workshop.
"Anti Ragging Awareness" rally was held on on 14/08/2023 as a part of Anti Ragging Awareness week (Aug 12th to Aug 18th) campaign in DSU As per the notification . Dr. CK Ranjan, the Vice Chancellor of the University flagged off and started the rally. Dr. V. Sekar, Dean, Planning and Development, Dr. D. Ravichandran and Dr. J. Pathma, Associate Deans, Students' Affairs led the rally along with the students. About 150 students participated in the awareness rally voicing slogans against ragging. Dr. Venkatesh and Ms. Keerthana (School of Engineering and Technology), coordinators of Endurance Club (under the aegis of Students' Affairs) organized the event.
The English Literary Club under the aegis of Students' Affairs cell organized Elocution, Essay, and Slogan Writing competitions on topics Impact of Ragging amongst Student Community, Ragging and its Legal Implications, and Anti - Ragging respectively as part of Anti - Ragging Awareness Week on 14th August 2023. Students from the constituent schools of the University actively participated in the competitions. Mr. P. Ragu Balan, Assistant Professor of Law, Ms. N. Nivetha, Assistant Professor, School of Agricultural Sciences, and Mr. D. Shiyam Ganesh, Assistant Professor of English, were the judges. Ms. Flintoff Mary, II BSc (Hons) Agriculture was the Student organiser of the event. The event was facilitated by Miss. R. Suriya, Club Coordinator.
An elocution competition was conducted on the title "Kelivadhai mattrum adhan satta vilaivugal" (Ragging and its legal consequences) by Tamil Literary Club on 14-08-2023 at the Academic block library hall from 4.00 pm to 5.00 pm. Students from various schools of the University participated in the event. Dr. J. Pathma, Associate Dean Student affairs was the chief guest . Dr. Aasif and Dr. Dinesh kumar were the judges and Dr. Sriranganathan, staff coordinator and Mr. Srirajharan, student coordinator organised the event. Ms. Ashmi from II year, School of Agricultural Sciences secured first price, Ms. Lavanya Anusha Devi, I year, School of Medicine secured second price and Ms. Rajeshwari II year, School of Agricultural Sciences secured third prize.
The fine arts and the photography club of DSU organized an awareness programme in which 250 students from various schools participated. Short films (from UGC website) was screened. Students from School of medicine and Agriculture performed skits, and students from other schools performed mime to create anti-ragging awareness. Also prizes were distributed to winners of various competition conducted during anti-ragging awareness week observation. Dr. D. Ravichandran and Dr.J. Pathma, Associate Deans, Students Affairs Cell, graced the occasion. Dr. Bobby, Staff coordinator organised the event.
Poster Presentation entitled "No 2 Ragging - Ragging free Campus" was organized by the Science Club - "Brainiac's", Under the Aegis of Students' Affairs Cell as a part of the Anti-Ragging Program on 17th August, 2023, 10.00 am, at 1st Floor Library Reading Hall, Academic Block, DSU. Dr.V. Senthamarai Selvi and Ms. Priyadharshini, Staff Coordinators and Student coordinator Ms. G.Ezhil Nilaa-II B.Sc CPPT of School of Allied Health Science, organised the event. The students from various schools participated in the Poster presentation. Students exhibited their talents and expressed their ideas on the Anti-Ragging through poster making. Posters were evaluated by Dr.Sanjay Singh, Dean, School of Engineering and Dr. Priyadharshini, Assistant Professor of Physiology. Dr. D. Ravichandran and Dr.J. Pathma, Associate Deans, Students Affairs Cell, Dr.Prakash, Controller of Examination, Dr.Ravi, Assistant Professor of Anatomy participated the progrmame.
A logo designing competition was organized by the Environment club "The Organics" under the aegis of Students' affairs on theme "Anti-Ragging". Students from various schools of the University participated and expressed their knowledge on Antiragging in a creative way. Dr. D. Ravichandran and Dr. Pathma J, Associate Deans, Students Affairs Cell were the judges for the same. Mrs. Julie, Staff incharge of the club organized the event.
