The workshop commenced at 10:00 AM with a warm welcome address by Dr. N. Shanmugapriya, Vice President of Institution's Innovation Council at Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan University followed by the felicitation address by Dr. Sanjay Singh, Dean, School of Engineering and Technology. Dr. V. Sekar, Dean, Planning and Development, Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan University, introduced the esteemed guest. They emphasized the paramount importance of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in today's knowledge-based economy. Dr. M. Kanthababu, who is renowned for his extensive knowledge and experience in the field, delivered insightful sessions throughout the day, covering various essential aspects of IPR.
Dr. Kanthababu provided a comprehensive overview of intellectual property rights, including copyrights, patents, trademarks, and trade secrets. He highlighted the significance of IPR in promoting innovation and protecting creators' rights. Participants gained insights into drafting patent claims and navigating patent offices. Dr. Kanthababu elucidated the concepts of copyright and trademark protection, discussing the scope of rights, registration procedures, and enforcement mechanisms. He provided real-life examples to illustrate the importance of safeguarding creative works and brand identities. Participants learned about popular patent databases and search engines, such as Google patent search, Indian patent search, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) database World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the European Patent Office (EPO) database. Participants left the workshop equipped with practical knowledge and resources to navigate patent databases and conduct effective patent searches for their future endeavours.
