International Yoga Day is observed every year on June 21 to raise awareness about this ancient practice and to celebrate the physical and spiritual prowess that yoga has brought to the world. Yoga is a practice which plays an important role in relaxing the mind and body and boosting people’s immune system.
Today, on 21st June 2023, Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan University celebrated 9th International Yoga Day with the pinnacle theme “VASUDHAIVA KUTUMBAKAM”. It was attended by all the prominent personalities of our University, Honourable Vice-Chancellor Dr. C. K. Ranjan, Honourable Registrar Dr. M. Ravichandran, Dr. V. Sekar, Dean, Planning and Development, and Deans, Professors, Directors and Students from different schools of the University with great enthusiasm.
The event began with a welcome address by Dr. K. Tharmar, Director – Physical Education and felicitation by Dr. M. Ravichandran, Dean, School of Agricultural Sciences. Dr. M. Santhosh Kumar and Ms. K. Suganya, Professors from Manushi Institute of Yoga, Chidambram and Mr. V. Baskar from yoga trainer in centre for yoga studies, Annamalai University, demonstrated the asanas and the significance of yoga in maintaining the harmony between body and mind.
Nearly 600 participants including students, dignitaries, University officials, faculty members and non-teaching staff performed warm up exercises, Surya Namaskar and other asanas. The yoga sudhakas encouraged students to practice regular yoga to remain fit and to improve concentration.
Dr. J. Pathma, Associate Dean, Students’ Welfare, Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan University proposed vote of thanks and the program ended with National Anthem.
