The National Leprosy Eradication Programme conducted an awareness programme on February 07, 2023, at Srinivasan Medical College and Hospital under Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan University, Samayapuram, Trichy.
The Department of Community Medicine organized the session. A total of 150 MBBS students and staff took part in this session. The awareness session began with an introduction of the presenters on behalf of the Department of Community Medicine. The session speaker was Dr. Shanthi, Deputy Director Leprosy. She gave a clear picture of the meaning of Leprosy, the causative organisms of Leprosy, and the signs and symptoms of the disease. As the quote goes, "Prevention is better than cure" she also gave an idea of the treatment along with doses of medicine to be given, Diagnostic ideas, and the grades of Leprosy. The session discussed the stigma around Leprosy, the government initiatives of anti-leprosy programmes, and monthly welfare schemes for those who suffer from Leprosy. It also discussed the functions of the Tamil Nadu Government regarding the prevention and cure of Leprosy.
The session was very informative and cleared all students' doubts about Leprosy. The session indeed created an enormous awareness among the students.
