CME ON MODERN TRENDS IN THE MANAGEMENT OF PAIN
ORGANIZED BY DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACOLOGY
- The function started with Tamil Thai Valthu lightning kuthuvilaku.
- Welcome address was given by Dr.S.Tamilarasi, MD Professor & Head, Department of Pharmacology. She welcomed all the dignitaries & audience and explains about the important of pain management.
- Felicitation done by Dr.M.Ravichanran, Registrar- DSU Followed by Dr.Thulasi, Dean- SMCH discussed about the updation, reading & development regarding pain.
- Session started with Dr.Priyadharhini,MD, SR in Department of Physiology discussed about definition, different types, purpose and pathways of pain, newer modalities of pain treatment, congenital variants related to pain.
- Dr.Felix Antony, MD Senior resident in the Department of Pharmacology discussed about all the group of drugs which can be used in alleviating pain (OPIODS & NSAIDS) & also discussed about the adverse effects of drugs used in pain treatment.
- Dr.Baranidharan, Intensivisit from Apollo Specialty Hospital, Trichy discussed about difference between analgesia, sedation & anesthesia. He also discussed about etiology, importance and what are the available options in ICU setup. Alternative pain therapies were also discussed in the detail. (Accupuncture, Aroma therapy, music, transcultaneous electric nerve stimulation)
- Dr.Ram Prasad, MS orthopedics from SRM, Trichy Discussed about the pathophysiology & management of Osteoarthritis (Platelet rich plasma, DMOAD- disease modifying osteoarthritis drugs, Intraacticular steroid injections)
- Before lunch quiz program has been conducted by Dr.Malliga, MD Professor Department of Pharmacology & Dr.T.Amrutharaja Saranya, MD, SR For all 1st MBBS, Junior resident , Senior resident & faculties, SMCH

- Dr.Ravikumar, MD, Professor & Head, Department of Neurology from Tanjore medical College discussed about the definitions, prevalence, classification, pathophysiology & pharmacotherapy Of Neuropathic pain. He also enlighten about the Complex regional pain syndrome, α - lipoic acid & Bisphosphonates
- Dr.Gurumurthy, Surgical Oncologist from Madurai Medical College discussed about assessment of cancer pain, ladder pattern in the management of pain, barriers for cancer pain, drugs used in reduced renal function in cancer patients.
- Function ended with vote of thanks by Dr.P.Surekha, MD, Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacology SMCH.
- To round the event we ended with National Anthem.
