Study and Maintenance of Instruments/tools/equipments Utilized in Testing/Research/Institutional Laboratories - 21st October 2024
A staff development programme on “Study and Maintenance of Instruments/tools/equipments Utilized in Testing/Research/Institutional Laboratories” was organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, School of Engineering& Technology under the IIC primarily for all the non-teaching faculties of the School of Engineering & Technology, DSU on 21 October 2024 from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m at Hall no 402, SET. The chief guest was Dr. T. Baskaran, Former General Manager, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd, Tiruchirappalli. Dr. A.X. Amal Rebin, Associate Professor/Mechanical Engineering, welcomed the gathering. Dr. G. M. Balamurugan, Professor and HOD/Mechanical Engineering introduced the chief guest. Students from II Year Mechanical Engineering also attended the event. Dr. B. Ramesh, Associate Dean/SET presented his views on the importance of maintenance and calibration of various equipments used in industries. The resource person Dr. T. Baskaran clearly indicated the essentials of various maintenance procedures like predictive maintenance, periodic maintenance, corrective maintenance and conditional maintenance. He also narrated some of the possible hazards that could be resulted by improper maintenance of machineries from his own experience. Also, he explained the 5S policy which should be adopted for the effective maintenance of equipments in the industry. The hands on demo on various safety measures was also conducted by Dr. T. Baskaran in the workshop lab in the afternoon session. This seminar session was aimed to provide awareness to the students and non teaching staff about the need of maintenance and calibration ideas and mindset for the current scenario and challenges. Around 20 non teaching staff and 50 students from various departments actively participated in the program. Dr. C. Chinthanai Selvan, Assistant Professor/Mechanical Engineering delivered the vote of thanks.
