Art from Waste - 23rd October 2024
Objective:
The objective of the "Art from Waste" event is to promote creativity, sustainability, and environmental awareness by encouraging participants to repurpose discarded materials into innovative artworks. This event aims to foster a mind-set of reducing waste through artistic expression.
Outcome:
Participants will develop a deeper understanding of the importance of waste management and sustainable practices. The event will enhance their creative problem-solving skills and inspire them to adopt eco-friendly habits in daily life.
Report on Art from Waste Event:
The "Art from Waste" event was held on Wednesday, 23rd October 2024 in the Seminar Hall (Library Hall-SET), beginning at 10:00 AM with a prayer song. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. R. Elancheran, Associate Professor of Chemistry, followed by felicitation from Dr. Sharad Porwal, Head of the Chemistry Department. The Dean, Dr. Shankar Duraikannan, shared valuable insights on sustainability, recycling, and the importance of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) during his address.
The event officially commenced at 10:45 AM with enthusiastic participation from 100 students across first, second, and third years. The exhibits were judged by Dr. G. Sasikumar (Associate Dean, CSE), Dr. Sharad Porwal (HOD, Chemistry), Dr. P. Geetha (HOD, ECE), and Dr. V.L. Maruthanila (HOD, Biotechnology), based on creativity, aesthetic appeal, craftsmanship, and presentation. Awards, and certificates were presented to the winners in the top three places.
Winners:
First Place: Ms. Bavasri A and Ms. Venotha R (First-year, B. Tech Biotechnology)
Second Place: Ms. Swetha S and Mr. Aagasah A (Second-year, B. Tech Computer Science Engineering)
Third Place: Ms. Ashta Sidya P and Ms. Pavithra Devi S (Third-year, B. Tech Biotechnology)
The prize distribution took place at 2:30 PM, led by Dr. P. Prabu (Associate Dean, Physics), Dr. G. Sasikumar (Associate Dean, CSE), and Dr. Sharad Porwal. Around 100 certificates were distributed to participants, with feedback collected to improve future events.
The event concluded with the National Anthem at 3:20 PM.
