Kalpaviruksha 2K24 on "World Coconut Day" - 2nd September 2024
The World Coconut Day 2024 themed on "Coconut for a Circular Economy: Building Partnership for Maximum Value" (Kalpaviruksha 2k24) function was celebrated in Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan University organized by school of agricultural sciences under the aegis of the International Coconut Community (ICC), formerly known as the Asian and Pacific Coconut Community (APCC), to raise awareness about the many benefits of coconuts. The World Coconut Day (WCD), observed annually on September 2nd, emphasizes the importance of coconuts in our lives and promotes sustainable farming practices. The day is dedicated to raising awareness about the various uses of coconuts and encouraging their global consumption, to raise awareness about coconuts cultural, nutritional, and economic value. The day also emphasizes sustainable practices in coconut farming and production. A function in observance of exhibition stall from various stakeholders from Tamil Nadu and students’ community from school of agricultural sciences, coconut based traditional foods and food products are displayed and tasted by dignitaries and students from inter and intra colleges and especially students from Mother Terasa Womens University and voice trust NGO, siruganur, Trichy. The function presided inaugural and opening of the exhibition stall from coconut commodities over by honored Dr. C.K. Ranjan, Vice Chancellor, Dr. Dhanasekaran Devaraj, Registrar, Chief guests Dr. K.S. Vijai Selvaraj, Associate Professor and Head, Vegetable Research station, TNAU, Palur and Mr. P. Balasubramanian, Proprietor and Chief Scientific Officer, Sakthi Agri clinic, Coimbatore, Dr. K. Chozhan, Dean, school of agricultural sciences, Dean, school of medicine, Dean, school of allied health sciences, Dean, school of pharmacy, Associate dean Students affairs, Associate dean, centre for research and all faculties of DSU and students extended their felicitations over the occasion. The main agenda of the function comprised of thamizh thaai vazhthu, lighting of lamp, welcome address by respected dean SAS, inaugural address by Honorable Vice Chancellor, presidential address by honorable Registrar, chief guests address and guest lectures themed on "Coconut for a Circular Economy: Building Partnership for Maximum Value". The competitions to embrace for student’s served as head of the panel of jury members and presented the prizes to the student’s winners. The jury panel comprised Dr. K. Chozhan, Dean School of Agricultural sciences, Dr. J. Pathma, Associate Dean Student’s affairs and the Faculties of SAS viz., Dr. R. Baranidharan, Dr. R. Mangaiyarkarasi, Dr. A. Vijai Ananth, Dr. M. Venkatraman, Mr. D. Gokul, and Ms. N. Nivetha. These distinguished individuals evaluated the competition relevant to world coconut day themed and determined the winners. The valedictory function overwhelmed vote of thanks by the chief organizing secretary Dr. R. Baranidharan, Assistant professor of Horticulture. And finally, plating of promising varieties of coconut seedlings in DSU garden land was done.
