Intellectual Property Rights - 26th & 27th April 2024
The inauguration of the IP Cell and the two-day workshop on "Intellectual Property Rights," organized by the Centre for Research in association with the School of Law at Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan University, on April 26th and 27th, 2024, to mark "World Intellectual Property Day," was a resounding success. Attendees gained invaluable insights into patent drafting, copyright, and patent application processes, thanks to expert speakers from esteemed institutions. Interactive discussions facilitated knowledge sharing and a deeper understanding of IP concepts and their applications in academia and industry.
The event began with a warm welcome address by Dr. R. Nagarajaprakash, the Associate Dean of the Centre for Research, setting the tone for the day's proceedings. Dr. C.K. Ranjan, the Vice-Chancellor, emphasized the importance of the workshop and IP Cell inauguration for the university's research and innovation goals. Then, Dr. Dhanasekaran Devaraj, the Registrar, highlighted the significance of intellectual property and its societal contributions, underscoring collaborative efforts to raise awareness within the academic community. Followed by chief guest address by Dr. Vijay Singh, IP Manager & Licensing, IPTeL, IISc Bangalore, and Mr. C. N. Shasidhara, Joint Controller of Patents at the Indian Patent Office, Chennai.
Session-1
Basics of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR):
This session handled by Dr. Vijay Singh, IP Manager & Licensing, IPTeL, IISc Bangalore, provided participants with a fundamental understanding of different types of intellectual property, including patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets. It covered the significance of IPR in protecting innovations and fostering creativity.
Indian Patent Filing system:
The session on the Indian Patent Filing System provided attendees with a comprehensive understanding of the patent application process, including key requirements, documentation, and insights into examination and approval procedures, led by Mr. C. N. Shasidhara, Joint Controller of Patents at the Indian Patent Office, Chennai.

Identifying IP from Your Project:
This session handled by Dr. Vijay Singh, IP Manager & Licensing, IPTeL, IISc Bangalore, provided participants recognize potential intellectual property within their research projects or innovations. It discussed methods for identifying unique and valuable aspects of their work that could be eligible for IP protection.

Drafting of Patents, Designs, and Copyrights:
This session handled by Mr. Senthil Kumar S, Registered Patent Agent, K&S Partners, Chennai, provided Participants learned about the process of drafting patent applications, design registrations, and copyright filings. This session emphasized the importance of clear and comprehensive documentation to secure legal protection for intellectual property assets.

Patent Application Process:

Trichy The session delved into the intricacies of the patent application process, including requirements, timelines, and procedures involved in filing a patent application. It provided practical guidance on navigating the patenting process effectively.
The workshop provided a comprehensive overview of intellectual property rights, empowering participants with vital knowledge and skills for navigating the intricate landscape of IP protection and management. Additionally, a book launch titled "The Ultimate Patent Guide" took place during the workshop, with the first copy presented to Dr. Vijay Singh, IP Manager & Licensing at IPTeL, IISc Bangalore, and the second copy to Dr. R. Nagarajaprakash, Associate Dean of the Centre for Research. The event concluded with a valedictory address by Dr. Rajkumar, Dean of the School of Law, followed by a vote of thanks from Mr. Venkateshkannan, IP Cell Coordinator.
