The School of Law, Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan University,Know your Rights Responsibilities Club under the aegis of Student's Affairs organized Anti – Ragging Workshop on 12th August 2023 at 11.00.am, Lecture Hall, Academic Block.The session started with Tamil thai valthu by School of Law students and lighted the lamp by dignitaries on the stage. Mr. P. Ragu Balan, Assistant Professor, School of Law welcomed the gathering and Mrs.M.Abinaya, Assistant Professor; School of law introduced the speaker Dr. B. Kumaresan, Assistant Professor, Tamilnadu National Law University, Trichy. Dr. M. Ravichandran, Dean, School of Agriculture Sciences, DSU, honored the Guest. The resource person addressed the students impressing upon them adverse effects of ragging. He explained to the students about ragging and its criminal offence and the person is liable to be prosecuted for it. Not only the offending parties, but also the silent witness would be held equally responsible. He explained to the first years, to protect the juniors, they should not be misused by them as it could destroy someone's career.The next session started at 2.00 p.m. Mrs. M. Suriya Priya, Assistant Professor, School of Law introduced the resource person Dr. V. Shyam Sundar, Assistant Professorof Law, Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College, Pudupakkam. He started the session by quoting the first Anti ragging case Pon Navarasu vs John David in 1996 and followed by other anti ragging cases. He insist many anti ragging may cause depression to the students and sometimes they decide to suicide as it affects their family. He highlighted about Anti ragging squad and Committee plays an important role to reduce Anti ragging issues. He has given mail-id and helpline number for reporting Anti ragging complaint. Ragging is prohibit in all Institutions and every students should follow the rules and regulations of the institutions to avoid Anti ragging. The speaker explained all the aspects with the help of PPT and explained duties and responsibilities of Anti-Ragging squad and Committees to monitor anti ragging issues in the Institutions. The lecture was followed by a question-answer session where the students were given an opportunity to pose questions based on the topic. Dr. D. Jothivenkatsan, Associate Professor, School of Law proposed a vote of thanks. The lecture was very well received by the various schools from Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan University. Nearly 250 students actively participated and benefited the fruitful session.
