Child Rights and Protection-30-12-2024
The Gender Champions’ Club and the Internal Complaints Committee organized a speciallecture on “Child Rights and Protection” for the students of the university in the SeminarHall, School of Engineering and Technology on 30.12.2024 at 11 a.m. Around 200 studentsfrom various schools of the university attended the programme. Dr. V. Thamil Selvi, Presiding Officer, the Internal Complaints Committee welcomed the gathering. A pledge against child marriage was taken by all the students and staff members present in the hall. The Vice-Chancellor, Dr. C.K. Ranjan, and the Registrar Dr. Dhanasekaran Devaraj gave away cash awards to the winners of ICC FEST 2K24. The guest speaker, Mrs. S. Shyamala, Member,Child Welfare Committee, Trichy, emphasized that Child rights and protection are fundamental to ensuring a safe and just society for children, encompassing their rights to survival, development, participation, and protection. Despite these frameworks, children
often face violence, abuse, and neglect, which severely impact their physical and emotional well-being. Legal measures in India, such as the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, provide a robust foundation for addressing these issues. She concluded that ensuring child welfare requires collective efforts from governments, communities, and individuals to create a safe, empowering, and nurturing environment for every child. Dr. J.
